Road distance from Connaught Place to central Agra. About 165 km of it is the Yamuna Expressway, which is fast; getting out of Delhi through Noida takes up to an hour. Allow 4 to 4.5 hours with a tea stop.
What to see in Agra
Three Mughal sites in the city, a garden across the river from the Taj, and Akbar's abandoned city at Fatehpur Sikri. One full day covers the city.
Taj Mahal
The white marble tomb Shah Jahan built for Mumtaz Mahal, on the Yamuna. Closed every Friday. Cars stop at the East or West Gate parking, and a battery bus takes you on.
Agra Fort
The red sandstone fort of the Mughal emperors, about 2 km up the river from the Taj. You go in by the Amar Singh Gate on the south side.
Itmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb
The Baby Taj: a small marble tomb on the east bank, covered in inlaid stone patterns. Much quieter than the Taj.
Mehtab Bagh
A Mughal garden on the far bank, right opposite the Taj, for the view across the river with no crowds. It closes at sunset.
Akbar's Tomb, Sikandra
The emperor Akbar's tomb, finished in 1613, about 10 km north-west of the city, with a huge gateway and deer in the gardens.
Fatehpur Sikri
The red sandstone city Akbar built in the 1570s and left, about 38 km west of Agra. Cabs stop below the hill and a shuttle bus goes up.
The drive: which way to go
The expressway is the quick way. The old highway is slower but passes Mathura.
Yamuna Expressway

The way most cabs go. Out through Noida to Greater Noida, then the Yamuna Expressway all the way to the edge of Agra. Straight, fast and tolled, with food courts along the way.
NH44 through Mathura
~258 km · about 5 h · via Faridabad, Palwal & Mathura
The old Delhi to Agra highway. More traffic and more km, but you can stop at Mathura, and the road into Agra passes Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra.
