Rishikesh sightseeing by cab

Places to visit in Rishikesh, and the order to see them

Rishikesh's main sights fit in two days by cab. One day is the town: the ashrams, Laxman Jhula and Tera Manzil, the Beatles Ashram and the evening Ganga aarti at Triveni Ghat. The other goes up to Neelkanth Mahadev Temple and two forest waterfalls. A third day adds the sunrise at Kunjapuri and Vashishta Gufa. Ram Jhula is closed for repairs in 2026, so cross the river by Janki Setu or Bajrang Setu.

Questions people ask

Is Ram Jhula open?

No, not as of October 2026. A news report says the bridge closed fully for repairs in late July 2026, with reopening aimed at December 2026. Cross on foot by Janki Setu, about 1 km downstream, which is open to walkers and two-wheelers.

Can I walk on Laxman Jhula?

No. The old bridge has been closed since 2022 because it is no longer safe. Bajrang Setu, the new bridge beside it, opened to walkers in 2026, and its glass walkways are open about 06:00 to 22:00.

Which Ganga aarti should I see?

Either. Triveni Ghat's is the old town's big aarti, and Parmarth Niketan's, on the east bank, is the best known. Both start at sunset, about 17:30 in winter and 18:30 in summer, so pick one. The plans end at Triveni Ghat because a cab can drive there.

Can I go rafting on the same trip?

Yes. Rafting companies pick you up in Tapovan and the usual run from Shivpuri back to town takes about 2 to 3 hours, so you don't need the cab. Book a morning or afternoon batch. Rafting stops for the monsoon, from about July to mid-September.

Can I add Haridwar?

Haridwar is about 25 km south, 30 to 45 minutes by road, and is worth its own day for Har Ki Pauri and its evening aarti. It is not in these plans.

When is the best time to visit Rishikesh?

October to April. The river is calm and rafting runs. May and June are hot. July to mid-September brings heavy rain, a high river, no rafting and the Kanwar crowds, when the Neelkanth road can close to cars.
