Deep cracks in the rock between tall pine-covered cliffs, once called the Devil's Kitchen. They took their name from the 1991 Tamil film Guna, and the 2024 film Manjummel Boys made them famous again. The caves themselves are closed: you walk a short forest path and look in from behind a railing.

Viewpoints & cliffsAbout 09:00 to 16:30; forest department ticket?

Tip: The path is muddy and has roots and steps; wear shoes with grip. Stay behind the railing.

A lake in open grassland at about 2,000 m, 35 km west of town. The grassland round it belongs to a government sheep and rabbit research farm, and the forest department runs an eco-tourism site at the lakeside with walks and a watchtower.

    Lakes & fallsAbout 09:00 to 17:00?

Tip: It is colder and windier than town, so carry a jacket. Ask at the farm office before walking into the sheep farm.

  6. Back at Kodaikanal town

Drive times come from road routing without traffic. The hill roads are narrow and winding, and the town and the Pillar Rocks road jam at weekends, on holidays and in April to June, so allow more time. Mist can close in quickly in the afternoon and in the monsoon. Opening hours marked ? are not yet confirmed, so check them before you go.

More or less time in Kodaikanal?

Questions people ask

Is 2 days enough for Kodaikanal?

Yes, for most visitors: the town and forest viewpoints on day one, and Poombarai and Mannavanur on day two. Add a third day for Dolphin's Nose and Berijam Lake.

Can I go to Berijam instead of Mannavanur on day two?

Yes, if your driver can get the forest permit and it is not a Tuesday. The 3-day plan's third day (Dolphin's Nose, Berijam Lake and Silver Cascade, about 66 km) works as a second day on its own. Mannavanur needs no permit and is open every day.

Which order should the days go in?

Either. Day one on a weekday is quieter, since the forest road jams at weekends. If one day is misty, make it the Mannavanur day: the lake is worth seeing in cloud, the valley views are not.
