The drive: which way to go

There is one usual road. A longer hill road is used when NH10 is closed.

Usual

NH10 up the Teesta valley

~127 km · about 4.5 h · via Siliguri, Sevoke, Rangpo & Singtam

From the airport round Siliguri to the Coronation Bridge at Sevoke, then up the Teesta river on NH10 to Rangpo, the Sikkim border, and on through Singtam to Gangtok.

Other

Through Kalimpong and Rhenock

~175 km · about 6.5 h · via Kalimpong, Pedong & Rhenock

The hill road cabs use when a landslide closes NH10. Longer and slower, with sharp bends, but it passes Kalimpong. Ask the driver which road is open that morning.
