Questions people ask

How many days do you need for Bangalore?

Two days for the city: one for old Bangalore round K.R. Market, the Bull Temple and Lalbagh, and one for Vidhana Soudha, Cubbon Park, the Bangalore Palace and ISKCON. Add a third day for the Nandi Hills sunrise and the Adiyogi statue, about 60 km north.

Which Bangalore sights are closed on some days?

The National Gallery of Modern Art and the Venkatappa Art Gallery close on Mondays, and Bannerghatta Biological Park on Tuesdays. The Bull Temple closes from about 12:00 to 17:30 and the Gavi Gangadhareshwara cave temple from about 12:30 to 17:00. ISKCON closes from 13:15 to 16:15 on weekdays. The Government Museum in Cubbon Park is closed for restoration.

What are the Bangalore Palace timings?

10:00 to 17:30 every day, last entry at 17:00. The ticket is about ₹240 for Indians, more for foreigners, and includes an audio guide; cameras cost extra.

What are the Nandi Hills timings?

About 06:00 to 18:00 every day. The gate opens at about sunrise, so leave Bangalore by 04:40 to be there for it. There are small entry and parking fees, and the hill is sometimes shut at short notice for events.

Is Bannerghatta in the plans?

No. The zoo, butterfly park and safari need half a day of their own, about 44 km there and back. Go from the 09:30 opening on any day but Tuesday; it fits in place of day two's museums if you want it.

Can I see the inside of Vidhana Soudha?

Yes, on guided tours on Sundays and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, from 10:00 to 13:30, about ₹50, booked through KSTDC. On other days you see it from the road, which is how the plans do it.

What about Wonderla and the Big Banyan Tree?

Both are off the Mysuru road west of the city. Wonderla, about 30 km out, is a full day of rides (11:00 to 18:00 on weekdays). The Big Banyan Tree is about 10 km off the highway, so it is a detour on the way to Mysuru.

How bad is the traffic in Bangalore?

Bad. The times on these pages are without traffic. On weekdays allow extra time from about 08:30 to 11:00 and 17:00 to 21:00, above all on Old Airport Road and the Outer Ring Road. The early start on day one and the Nandi Hills day keeps the long drives out of the rush.
