Shimla in 2 days: what to see, in what order

Two days covers Shimla well. Day one is Jakhu Temple, the Viceregal Lodge, the State Museum, Sankat Mochan and Kali Bari, about 34 km. Day two is Kufri, Fagu, the Himalayan Nature Park and Mashobra, about 49 km. Both end by about 16:00, so the evenings are free for the Ridge and the Mall. Keep day one off a Monday and day two off a Tuesday.

Tip: The roads here are narrow and winding. There is little to buy, so carry water and snacks.

  7. Back at The Lift, Cart Road

Drive times come from road routing without traffic. Shimla's roads are narrow and winding, many run one way, and Cart Road and the Kufri highway are slow at weekends and in the snow season, so allow extra time on every drive. Opening hours marked ? are not yet confirmed, so check them before you go.

More or less time in Shimla?

Questions people ask

Is 2 days enough for Shimla?

Yes, for the town and Kufri. Add a third day for Chail, or for Naldehra and a slower look at the Mall.

Which order should the two days go in?

Either. Just keep the town day off a Monday, when the Viceregal Lodge and the museum close, and the Kufri day off a Tuesday, when the nature park closes. If it has snowed, do Kufri on the clearer day.

Can I add the Tara Devi temple?

Yes, on day one. It is on a hill near Sankat Mochan, west of town, so it is a short detour from the highway. Check the day still ends in time with the driver.
